About MeThis striking vase of polished anodised aluminium demonstrates both Foster's fascination with Japanese decorative art and his playful yet sophisticated approach to functional objects. Ikebana means 'arranged flower', a Japanese art that is very different from the Western equivalent, focussing on harmony of linear construction, rhythm, and colour, all of which are explored in this piece. It is the linear aspects of an ikebana arrangement that are particularly emphasised and have developed over time to include the vase, which Foster is aware of.
More About Me
The vase's rippled surface appears to unfurl and sway.  It’s a vessel but also an extension of the flowers it will hold.
