About MeThe McBeys rented a house for three weeks in the Atlantic fishing town of Stonington, Connecticut, where James painted the red and green Portuguese fishing boats berthed there.

One of the watercolours was bought by his friend H.H. Kynett, who loved the way that James McBey had managed to capture the scene, writing of it, "almost do you smell the tang of the fish wharf, the aroma of the nets, the wet planks of the ice shute".
