About MeThis full length standing figure of Lord Byron who attended Aberdeen Grammar School before he was moved to Harrow. It was designed by James Pittendrigh Macgilivray. Byron's head is turned to the right and he stands with a purposeful air with right foot food forward. His cloak is tied across his shoulders with a cord and is pulled forward across his lower torso and legs, covering them and is draped over his left arm in the manner of a Roman toga. He wears early 19th century dress, including boots ornamented with tassles. In his right hand he holds a pen and in his left a wad of writing paper.
Re-framing the Collection
Lord Byron has been linked to abolitionist sentiment through relatives and interpretations of his poetry; for instance, Byron’s writings were an inspiration for anti-slavery writing in the US.
