About MeThis pretty snuff box is inscribed thus:
'Presented by the Commissioners for Aberdeen Harbour to Capt. Peter Cadenhead for gallant conduct in being one of those who manned the tug steamer on the occasion of saving the crew and passengers from the wreck of the schooner Newcastle 24th Feb 1844'.

Occasionally the museum is approached by dealers and auctioneers who recognise that they may have something of specific interest to the collections. This snuff box was offered for sale by an antiques dealer in England. It is of such clear importance to the maritime history of Aberdeen that museum staff made successful appeals to the National Fund for Acquisitions and the Friends of Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums to purchase it.
