About MeThe Scold's Bridle - also known as "the Branks" - was used as a form of corporal punishment for women accused of slanderous talk and malicious gossip. The helmet fitted over the head with the metal tongue thrust into the mouth. Occasionally, a pair of reins would be attached to the bridle and the woman would be whipped through the streets of the burgh.
