Portsmouth, 3 January - VIKING, brig, of Colchester, proceeded on its voyage after collision in thick fog, with Harriet Wallis (which had damage to stanchions, bulwarks, rails and rigging).

19/02/1876:
AN UNFORTUNATE VOYAGE—Captain Simmons of the brig VIKING, of Colchester, which arrived at Granton on Tuesday from Boulogne, reports that one of his crew, named James Lees, while in the latter port, fell into the hold of the vessel, and died after being removed to the hospital. Another of the crew, named Ferguson, who took ill on the passage, had to be landed at Yarmouth. Early yesterday morning the mate of the brig, named Fred Simmons, fall from the mainyard to the deck. He escaped with but slight injuries. At the time of the occurrence the vessel was rolling heavily, the sea being very stormy.
