About MeAs tussah silk cannot be dyed it is often embroidered with brightly coloured pure silks in order to inject colour into a garment that would otherwise look very drab. The dress features one of the more extreme fashions of the time-the hobble skirt, which emerged in the years before the war. Although it featured a shorter hemline freeing the Edwardian lady from cumbersome trailing skirts, it still restricted the wearer’s movements, by only allowing them to take small steps.
