About MeIan Fleming was born and educated in Glasgow. He was a student at Glasgow School of Art and was later appointed to the teaching staff. Later he became warden of the post graduate summer school of Hospitalfield, on the outskirts of Arbroath. He moved to Aberdeen in 1954 and was appointed Principal of Gray's School of Art, a post he held until his until his retirement in 1972.

His time living in Angus was remembered fondly and the east coast - from Dundee to Aberdeen - continued to provide subject matter for Fleming. This romantic sunset scene dates from a few years before his retirement and was almost certainly located in the Mearns countryside that was the setting for Lewis Grassic Gibbon's famous novel of the same title.

More About Me

This romantic sunset was probably located in Fleming's favourite Mearns countryside, the setting of the Lewis Grassick Gibbon novel of the same name.
