About MeThis small ceramic jug has an inscription in blue: WILD FLOWER,/ N. A WAYSIDE TEXT.Ian Hamilton Finlay sent this jug, a new work, to Joyce Laing, who was recovering from an operation in the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. Parcelled-up in a round plastic box, the jug was packed with moss and filled with wild snowdrops.
Finlay also produced a similar wild flower vase around this time - a small straight-sided vase, cylindrical in form. It exists in at least two versions, with the following inscriptions: 'A field with tares, wildflowers, is more valuable than a field without tares' and 'Virgil Dicovered the Evening. Rousseau Picked the First Wild Flower'.
