About MeJames McBey's etchings of Egypt and Palestine were done after the war, based on the sketches and drawings he made when he was a commissioned artist with the British Expeditionary Forces. This explains the two dates on the inscription on this etching plate - 'Kard Hill Gaza 31 October 1917 1920'. 1917 relates to the date of the incident depicted and 1920 was when the etching was made. We know from McBey's diary that at the end of October 1917 he was with the 52nd Division, Highland Light Infantry, near Gaza.
