24/03/1845: Banburgh, Farn Islands, Knivestone Rocks. On a voyage from Dundee to Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the wooden brig, ALEXANDER, in ballast, struck on the middle of the knivestone at 4am. Her anchors, cables, sails, rigging and store were saved by north Sunderland fisherman before the following tide caused her to break her back and disappear from sight.
