This wheel has 12 flat edged spokes which become rounded as they reach the rim. They fit into the wheel centre and rim via wooden dowels at each end.
The rim consists of six wooden sections (known as sawed felloe sections), joined together with a dowel at each end and in three instances are also bolted to the outer metal rim from below with a metal nut and bolt combination.
In the middle of the wheel is a metal flange on the inner hub.
Through the centre there is a wooden barrel style construction which houses the central shaft.
On the opposite side to the inner hub, the outer hub resides with a wooden flange.
There is evidence of long, thin bits of wood being used to fill in gaps between the steel tyre and sawed felloe sections ie where wear has occurred.
Some red paint remains on the spokes but it is peeling heavily.
This wheel belongs to ABDMS094880.
