About MeSilver cup presented to Capt. James Palmer RYS Fox, 1855This cup is a link to the first owner and captain of the yacht FOX, built by Alex. Hall & Co. in 1855, and must mark one of her first voyages for her owner, Sir Richard Sutton, and her first master, Capt. Palmer.
The inscription reads:
Presented to
Capt. James Palmer
by the Guests of
SIR R. SUTTON BART
On board the R.Y.S. Yacht
FOX
As a mark of their high opinion of his skill.
And gratitude for his attentions
during a voyage to Norway and back.
September 1st 1855.
Both the Baronet and Captain Palmer died shortly afterwards. The Captain is buried in Aberdeen. The cup was given to the donor by his grandfather George Palmer of Aberdeen who was a great nephew of Captain Palmer.
