About MeDuring the First World War, Grant and Vanessa Bell set up home in Charleston, Sussex. The huge ten-bedroomed ramshackle house stood beside a pond. Here Grant and Bell worked alongside each other: Grant often painting the surrounding landscape, as he can be seen here, whilst Bell painted interior settings. After his earlier exploration of abstraction, in the 1920's Grant resumed a careful observation of nature in his art.
