About MeStuffed terrier type dog on wheeled metal frame - called "Scamp" by his owner, the dog was purchased at MacMillan's on Union Bridge, Aberdeen. This dog is part of a range from Chiltern Toys known as walkie-talkie pets. Described in a 1954 advert as " lively playmates for playful toddlers", the largest size was strongly reinforced and could actually be ridden. Scamp's owner probably got him as a birthday present when she was 2 or 3. She lived in Torry and went out for a walk every afternoon, sometimes to Duthie Park and sometimes took Scamp along.
The dog is made from a hessian based "fur" which is a caramel brown colour, with black ears in a similar fabric. The nose is embroidered in black thread and he has plastic eyes. A label on the dog's underside identifies it as "CHILTERN // HYGIENIC // TOYS // MADE IN ENGLAND". The dog is mounted on a red metal frame with struts supporting his body. His feet are attached to crossed metal bars which are animated by the rear axle to give the impression of movement.
