About MeThis was a present to an offshore worker prior to his departure to an installation in the North Sea in the 1980's. At this time any means of entertainment and communication with shore were limited on offshore installations, and most what was available was communal.
It was not uncommon for crews to carry small devices such as this, due to the restrictions on weight and space available during transfer with them offshore, to allow them some 'personalised' distraction during their 'down time'.
