About MeKing Edward I or II silver penny belonging to Aberdeen's St Nicholas Street hoard. Found in 1984, this hoard comprises 2538 coins, including coins from England, Scotland, Ireland and the continent, as well as 54 imitation coins.

Coin Type: Penny, Class 10 or 11/ potential imitation
Coin Issuer: Edward I or unknown forger
Date Minted: 1301-1314
Mint Location: Unknown
Find Date: 1984
Obverse: Forward facing crowned head with broad, curling hair framed with text inscription that appears to have been stamped twice making text illegible.
Reverse: Centrally placed long cross with three pellets in each corner and text ringing the outer edge.
Manufacture Method: Hammered
Condition: Very poor. Coin appears to have been struck twice from different positions on the obverse side, causing text to overlap and become illegible. The reverse is heavily worn over portions of text, making the mint location illegible. The coin also has an indent over the obverse side's king image where the cross is positioned on the reverse side. The coin also has patches of tarnish on both sides. This coin seems to have been struck too far to one side as opposed to having been clipped, due to a lack of any straight edges, despite text disappearing from the edge.
