About MeAn imitation King Edward I or II silver penny belonging to Aberdeen's St Nicholas Street hoard. Found in 1984, this hoard comprises 2538 coins, including coins from England, Scotland, Ireland and the continent, as well as 54 imitation coins.

Coin Type: Penny, Forgery based on genuine Class 10 and 11 pennies
Coin Issuer: unknown forger
Date Minted: 1301-1314
Mint Location: Unknown, but is does reference the typical inscription for Canterbury
Find Date: 1984
Obverse: Forward facing crowned head with broad, curling hair framed with text inscription.
Reverse: Centrally placed long cross with three pellets in each corner and text ringing the outer edge.
Manufacture Method: Hammered
Condition: The coin is in poor condition on both sides, due to wear and poor striking. It is a clear forgery based on it having incorrect inscriptions on both sides, and a poorly cut reverse die, featuring a fifth ghost stem of the central cross and overlapping pellets. The obverse's inscription is also difficult to read and its central portrait is also poorly cut, with large details missing.
