About MeThe steel Lewis is similar to lifting devices used in Roman times to lift large, heavy stones. This one was used in the local granite industry. A shaped hole is cut into the stone, wider at base than the neck. The outer metal pieces are inserted first, then the central pin - pushing the flanges into the recess. Finally, the loop is secured, and the stone can be lifted.
