About MeThis large cast steel ring is known as a shotting ring because it was used with iron shot to polish granite. It was probably used with a Jenny Lind - a polishing machine invented in America which first came to Aberdeen in the 1890s, capable of polishing much larger surfaces than existing machine methods. It was called a Jenny Lind because it "sang" like the famous Swedish opera singer of the same name.
