About MeIn 1909 L.S. Lowry's family moved to Pendlebury, an industrial suburb of Salford. Here Lowry chose to depict the urban landscape - the mills, chimneys, the terraced houses and the canals. A loner - both artistically and socially - fame came late to Lowry. It was not until 1939 - when the artist was fifty-two - that the Lefevre Gallery staged the exhibition that was to launch his career.
More About Me
This house is likely to be in either Pendlebury or Salford, near Manchester, where Lowry grew up and studied. The crowd in the background are painted in Lowry's distinctive "matchstick people" style.
