About MeGiles painted this tranquil scene of Findhorn, on the Moray Firth, with the influence of 17th century Italian painting in mind. However, his delicacy of technique perfectly captures this flat area of sandy, shallow water, known for its fine weather. Findhorn is now a popular spot for yachting, but was prone to flooding in the early 19th century.George Fennell Robson
