About MeOne of Lucie Rie's distinctive strong vase forms with bulbous body tapering to a long thin neck balanced by a wide flared wavy rim. The body is glazed in a muted textured glaze with pink and dark olive spirals.
Dame Lucie Rie brought an intelligent, philosophical approach to ceramics, inspired by Modernist aesthetics. One of the country's great potters, she has had a profound influence on contemporary work. Born in 1902 in Vienna she came to Britain in 1938 to escape Nazi Germany. Her London studio has now been recreated in the ceramics gallery on the Victoria and Albert Musuem.
