About MeIn 1357, following developments in the English coin series, David II of Scotland introduced the first Scottish groats (fourpenny pieces). Except for the 'Scottish' profile head on the obverse these coins closely resemble their English equivalents.

In the 18th century a hoard containing Scottish groats of David II and Robert III - including, apparently, some Aberdeen-minted examples - was discovered at Lumphanan, Aberdeenshire.

The larger size of the groat permitted two circles of inscription to be used: the outer one may be translated literally from the Latin as ' The Lord is my Protector and my Liberator' while the inner one bears the mint name VILLA ABERDON (Town of Aberdeen).

There are no works to discover for this record.
