About MeIn this work Edwin Benuzzi depicts a harbour view from the famous Venetian promenade, the Riva degli Schiavoni. Two women carrying baskets descend the steps alongside the water, while another sits by the water's edge. A rather better dressed man walks up from the foreground. It is a beautiful setting, with clear blue sky only interrupted by the tall, pointed, slightly ragged sails and masts of the ships from the harbour. The tone is one of calm and contemplation and a world away from the scene as it would be today, almost perpetually crowded with tourists.
