About MeThe Aberdeen artist Robert Brough studied at the Royal Scottish Academy where he developed his unique, almost Post Impressionist style; taking inspiration from the French Impressionists and the Glasgow Boys. Brough travelled in Paris with fellow Scottish painter, Samuel J Peploe. Although they came from drastically different backgrounds, Peploe being the son of a wealthy banker and Brough the illegitimate son of a maid, they spent the summer painting in watercolours and oil paints, although little of this work has been traced.

Although only one figure is clear in the study, Brough has inscribed "3 Bathers" on the lower edge and there is the sugggestion of further figures. Dated 1893 this is almost certainly a study that Brough made whilst studying in Edinburgh.
