About MeRobert Brough, the Aberdeen artist, studied at the Royal Scottish Academy, as well as spending time painting abroad, to develop a unique, almost Post Impressionist style. His time in Brittany in France saw him explore the styles of the Nabis and the Synthesists, especially those of Paul Gauguin. The illegitimate son of an Aberdeen maid he died aged only 33 in a train crash.William Pyper was one of the wealthiest Aberdeen merchants at the turn of the century, having opened his first store near Marischal College in 1866. Today Pyper of Pitfodels is remembered for having managed Aberdeen's first steam trawling ship and for helping establish the Aberdeen Association for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. What is lesser known about the prosperous merchant is that he was himself an amateur artist and even exhibited with the Aberdeen Artists Society in 1902.
