He was the father of the advocate Alexander Webster, esq., the donor of the Webster collection of pictures and porcelain but gathered much of the collection himself. He was also Lord Provost of Aberdeen (1856-59) and Liberal MP for the City of Aberdeen between 1880 and 1885.
