About MeThe sitter, nee Margaret Chalmers, was the daughter of David Chalmers of Westburn and wife of John Webster, Lord Provost of Aberdeen and liberal politician. She was the mother of the donor Alexander Webster esq. who bequeathed this portrait to Aberdeen Art Gallery in 1921.
More About Me

Margaret Chalmers, wife of a Lord Provost, came from the family owning Westburn estate, now partly the Aberdeen park. The artist was brother of Howard Carter, discoverer of Tutankhamun's tomb.
