About MeA carved four lobed red lacquer bowl with black interior and standing on four feet. The exterior of the bowl features four vignettes depicting Chinese figures and various patterns.Lacquering has been used in China and Japan since the late Neolithic period and is a decorative technique whereby layers of varnish made from the sap of a native tree Rhus Vernicifera are added to the surface of wood, fabric or leather either for carving or to be inlayed with other materials.
