About MeFrom July to October 1874 the Impressionist artist, Alfred Sisley, was in England, painting the Thames near Hampton Court, where he was staying. He returned to his home at Louveciennes in France in October. The autumnal colours of the tree in the foreground of this painting suggest that this intimate view was painted at that time. This picture shows how subtly Sisley could adjust his palette and brushstroke to the needs of a particular season and a specific time of day. Through mauve clouds a little blue sky can be seen. With the weakening daylight of Autumn comes the gentler shadows and more uniform tonality of this work.
