About MeDyce moved to London in 1832 but continued to return to Scotland throughout his career. These country holidays took his mind off the pressures of London where the burden of unfinished fresco commissions lingered. Dyce commented that these trips for a change of air always payed and he produced some of his most distinguished work of the period on these excursions.

Dyce has shown what is surely a family group. A woman stands on a river bank and calls to two of her children to bring a wash tub to shore. The reason for her concern is clear when we notice that another tub is floating down stream. This small scale oil, in which the landscape is depicted in minute detail, is typical of Dyce's work during this late period in his career.

More About Me
At first glance the minute detailing in this small oil might be mistaken for an early coloured photograph
