About MeMonarchs still claim their right to rule is granted by God. For millenia it was widely believed that the monarch (like Christ) could heal the sick and used to hold ceremonies where they would heal the sick. Scrofula (a type of tuberculosis), known as 'the Kings Evil' was one of the main maladies they sought to effect a cure. They held ceremonies where they would lay their hands upon the sufferer and by doing so would cure the afflicted. Over time the monarch didn't actually touch the sick person, rather they distributed items like this which as they had been in direct contact with the monarch could transfer the healing power when given to the supplicants.
This is a relatively late example which was distributed by Charles Edward Stuart - the exiled King Charles III of Britain & Ireland.
