About MeJoan Eardley's work first won critical acclaim when she exhibited a group of drawings completed during her post diploma year at Glasgow School of Art. The drawing exhibition was later shown in Aberdeen, in the foyer of the Gaumont Cinema, formerly in Union Street. It was this chance connection with the city which led Eardley to her discovery of Catterline.

This large scale drawing of an Italian church interior has been worked-up from a sketch drawn in situ when she visited Italy on a travelling scholarship in 1948. It has the same vigorous quality which characterised her later work in oil.
