About MeCarte de visite of Queen Victoria with her granddaughter, Victoria. The Queen is wearing all black with a black hood and white coif. The princess is sat on her lap in a white dress with lace trim and a hood. There is a small foot stool at the Queen's feet. On the reverse the photographer's details appear in full. There is also a hand-written number in pencil: 4. The princess was born in 1863 and the Queen's clothing suggests this was after the death of Prince Albert in 1861. Until the day she died (1901) the Queen wore black in mourning of her husband.More About Me
The title of this photograph is rather confusing in that Queen Victoria did have a daughter called Victoria - her first child, but the child here is actually one of her 22 granddaughters!
