About MeChinese plate decorated with pattern of sacred carp, symbolic of wealth and harmony. The term ‘Export Porcelain’ denotes items which have been manufactured in the East specifically for export to Europe and America. With the formation of the East India Company in 1600, trade between Britain and the Orient flourished. Along with silk and tea, porcelain became one of the most important exports. It was generally stored in the lowest part of the hold so that its weight gave the ship stability and because it would not be damaged by water.
