About MeWallis lived and worked in St. Ives. He had been a fisherman but in latter years ran a marine and rag-and-bone store in the town. After the death of his wife in the early 1920's Wallis began to paint 'for company'. He used what he could find - irregularly shaped pieces of cardboard or wood. On these he painted with ship's enamel or household paint.

Wallis received no professional art training and his works are intuitive and unsophisticated. Although Wallis had no grasp of perspective, he possessed a natural feeling for placing ships or buildings within a composition, coupled with the ability to convey lively movement.

More About Me
Despite the flatness of the medium, the fleeting and visible brushworks of the sea give movement to the sea waves.
