About MeThe magnificent and complex mountain of Lochnagar lies south of the Dee valley on the Balmoral estate. Train paints it from the north side of the river. From this viewpoint, the sharp summit and flanking corries can be seen rising above the lower slopes with their pinewoods of the Ballochbuie Forest.

Thomas Train studied at Glasgow School of Art but latterly lived at Church Cottage, Skene near Aberdeen. This view of Lochnagar was, therefore, a familiar one. Train had a great love of wild places - particularly The Grampians - and in this work he captures perfectly the bleak beauty of this magnificent mountain.
