About MeSickert was an established artist with a considerable reputation when he returned to London in 1905 after periods in France and Italy. He was the key member of the Camden Town Group and through it he came to know some younger artists.

This view is likely to be of the back garden of one of the properties where Sickert lived and worked in the Hampstead area. This work illustrates the lighter palette adopted by Sickert, which was probably influenced by fellow artists Spencer Gore and Lucien Pissarro.
