About MeKarlowska was the wife of Robert Bevan. She studied art in Paris in the 1890's and moved to London with Bevan after their marriage in 1897. Her husband's painting from then on much absorbed her artistic life.

This work was painted well after Bevan's death in 1925. The tree-lined square is a typical scene favoured by Camden Town painters. The high viewpoint suggests that it was painted from a neighbouring studio window. In subject and viewpoint, it can be compared to 'Hampstead' by Sickert and 'Flask Walk, Skyline' by Ginner painted in the same year.
More About Me

During the 1930s the artist painted a series of views of central London squares. Several of these paintings were shown at her exhibition in Pall Mall in 1935.
