About MeA square token of basic design inscribed on one side only: NH / JA. The first pair of initials stand for the church name while the second pair are those of the minister, The Rev. James Allan.

A chapel is said to have been provided in this area in 1662 by George Davidson, a local laird, who made his fortune as a peddlar. Four years later Newhills was disjoined from the parish of Old Machar to become a parish in its own right.

A new church to serve Newhills, designed by Archibald Simpson, was opened in July1830 on a hilltop site which has only just managed to remain outside the built-up area of Aberdeen; the walls of the earlier church may be seen within the burial ground close by.
