About MeThis bottle was recovered in Nov. 1997 after 91 years in the sea.
It was recovered 18 miles North East of Fraserburgh by Mr McKenzie of Peterhead who was scallop dredging aboard the Solan.
The bottle was released by fbsv Goldseeker, working for the Fishery Board for Scotland.
Bottle 217 dates from the 'first series' of bottom drift bottle releases; there are no records of their release sites. However, there is a record of returns, which also contains release positions. Bottle 216 was returned in 1907. 217 was probably released with 216 as bottles are usually released in tens or twenties. 216 was released at 56o24'n 01o21'w on 10 August 1906. If 217 was released then, it has been in the sea 91 years and travelled 91 nautical miles in the direction 353 degrees. Mr McKenzie received a reward of £1 for his find
