About MeThe certified midwife's badge was introduced in 1928 and was in use until 1962 (although the enamel was changed to blue during the 1940s).

Originally a midwife first had to train as a registered general nurse (RGN), then as a midwife but in 1990 stand alone schemes were introduced. RGN trained midwives had to attend statutory refresher courses every 5 years and were practitioners in their own right.

The reverse is inscribed with the name of the qualified midwife, their registration number and date of registration. It is possible that the recipient of this badge, K.J.W.Wilson was co-author of the book "Foundations of Nursing".
