About MeGerrit Mollinger was a talented artist, whose work was greatly admired by his peers, but his life was cut cruelly short by consumption and he died at the age of only thirty-one.

Nevertheless he had an enormous effect on his Scottish artist friends, including George Reid, who adopted Mollinger's distinctive tonal treatment and emphasis on the horizontal.
