About MeOrchardson was one of the most gifted of a group of painters who painted under the guidance of Robert Scott Lauder. He was famed for his 'problem pictures' but was also a fashionable portrait artist admired for his fine draughtsmanship and harmonious use of colour, as well as his observation of minute nuances of behaviour.Orchardson was a friend of the Robertsons whom he visited frequently at Muchalls Castle, near Stonehaven. It was on one of these visits in February 1883 that the portrait of Lady Robertson was conceived. Orchardson was celebrated for his accurate observation of detail and most of his paintings demonstrate excellent examples of still life painting. This is particularly evident in the flowers on the table and darning basket at Lady Robertson's side.
More About Me
The lady of Muchalls Castle painted by a family friend. The painting was conceived during a February 1883 visit, so the flowers might not really have looked like this at this time of year!
