About MeAiken was awarded the silver medal at the Paris Salon in 1923 for this portrait of Harry Townend, Director of Aberdeen Art Gallery 1914-1939. It was previously exhibited at the RA in 1921 and shown again at the Salon of 1929.Dressed in a dapper business suit with hat, gloves and cane in hand, Townend’s bearing exudes a confident, masculine assertiveness. The painting in the background is not recognised as one from Aberdeen Art Gallery's collection and may have been in Townend's private collection.
