About MeIn the 1890's Bonnard was a member of the Nabis (Hebrew for 'Prophets') a group of painters who were inspired by the painting of Gauguin and by Japanese prints to produce a decorative art using flat colours.

Bonnard conceived 'The Governess and The Promenade' as part of a four panel, free standing screen and the lithographs were printed in an edition of one hundred. The format of the screen exemplifies the strong influence of Japonisme on Bonnards work at this time, as does the arrangement of the close up figures, with their economical use of line and flat, decorative shapes.
More About Me

This lithograph, by one of the Nabis group, shows a Japanese influence in the close-up figures, economy of line and flat decorative shapes.
