About MeGavarni is best known for his lithographs of Parisian high and low life, drawn with a journalistic eye for the foibles of fashion. Lithography gave the graphic artist a new freedom of expression which may be seen in the spontaneous strokes of black crayon reproduced in the Piper and Michael Bouquet's landscapes. It had the effect of bringing the viewer into a more direct and intimate contact with the artist's subject. The piper is seen in virtual 'close-up' with a kind of familiarity that Garvani uses for his more fashionable subjects.
