About MeThis object was found during an excavation at the site of the Aberdeen Carmelite friary. It was probably a coin weight, used for determining whether bullion coins, particularly those of gold, were of the correct mass.
The coin weight consists of a square chamfered block of lead with a flat reverse. It has a relief image on the upper surface of a three-towered castle slightly off-centre. The standard of workmanship appears poor.
