About MeMichael Wilkinson's work replicates a collection of record albums stacked casually on the floor. Stylistically, the designs make reference to 1980s vinyl record sleeves but they also recall 1960s American post-painterly abstraction and pop culture. The images are crisp and the paint surfaces are refined and highly finished. There is an obvious element of nostalgia for the demise of the LP and the LP sleeve, which has acquired art form status. The fact that The Collection can be laid out at the discretion of the gallery/owner brings in an interactive element, which could be developed through labelling. It forms an interesting link with other contemporary works which also involve an element of interaction in their display.
